One man died and two people were hospitalized in a house fire Thursday afternoon, authorities confirmed.
An unresponsive man was found by firefighters on the second floor of the 3.5-story home at 412 Roseville Avenue when firefighters arrived around 12:35 p.m., Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said.
That man was pronounced dead, and a man and woman were taken to University Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
The fire was considered under control at 1:55 p.m.
Three families including four adults, were relocated as a result of this fire.
Arson detectives from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the cause and origin of this fire.

One man was found dead Thursday at a house fire in Newark that left two other people hospitalized, officials said.
Firefighters were called to the blaze around 12:30 p.m. and found flames on the second and third floors of a three-story residence in the 400 block of Roseville Avenue, according to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose.
Emergency crews found a man “unresponsive” on the third floor of the North Ward building, authorities said. Another man and a woman suffered smoke inhalation and were rushed to University Hospital.
The fire erupted inside a two and a half-story Hedden Terrace home in the South Ward around 8:40 p.m. Friday, said Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose.

A Newark man is facing a first-degree murder charge after attacking and killing his 45-year-old wife in their Newark home, authorities said.
Maria Lasso was attacked by Jose Lasso Guaman at their Polk Street home on Jan. 14, and pronounced dead at the scene around 7:45 a.m., Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said.
Guaman has been charged with first degree murder, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
He was arrested Jan. 14 and remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark.
