Flash Flood Watch In Effect On LI; Damaging Winds Possible

Reply(1) (Patch file photo ) LONG ISLAND, NY A flash flood watch is in effect for much of Long Island as another round of severe storms threatens the region. The flood watch is in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday for Nassau County and western Suffolk County. Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon in the vicinity of a warm front, the National Weather Service says. As this front sinks back to the south tonight it will continue to focus thunderstorm activity and heavy rain potential over the watch area, especially in and around the New York City Tri-State area. This rain will be falling in areas hard hit by heavy rain and flash flooding late last week.

A partial solar eclipse is slated to bring a crescent sunrise to more than 75 million Americans. In Canada and other northern latitudes, a rare ring of fire solar eclipse will darken skies. In parts of Michigan, there will be plenty of opportunities to see a partial eclipse, especially for those near Lake Huron or other flat areas with unobstructed views of the horizon. Locally, the eclipse should last for about 35 minutes after sunrise, from around 5:45 a.m. to 6:35 a.m.
