New Delhi: Popular political cartoonist Manjul has received an email from Twitter stating that the authorities in India believe the content associated with his Twitter account, @MANJULtoons, “violates the law(s) of India”. “Indian law enforcement”, Twitter said, has requested it to take action on this matter.
The email from Twitter is unusual insofar as it notes that the content the government alleges violates the laws of India is his handle as a whole and not a specific tweet from his account.

NEW DELHI: The government on Saturday issued a final notice to social media platform Twitter for compliance with the new Information Technology (IT) rules, 2021.
In the notice the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) said, it is dismayed to note that your (Twitter s) responses to the ministry s letters neither address the clarifications sought by this ministry nor indicate full compliance with the rules.
It further stated that it is clear from your responses that till date Twitter has not informed about the details of the chief compliance officer as required under the rules.
Even after three months of the notification of new IT rules, Twitter is yet to designate India-based Chief Compliance Officer, Nodal Contact Person & Grievance Officer, the notification stated
Twitter has been given a final chance to appoint India-based officers following the country's new rules for social media companies failing which it will face "consequences", the government said on Sunday amid an escalating standoff with the platform.
"This is being done by pushing notifications to its users on the same and the messaging app should be restrained from the doing the same," the Centre told the High Court.
