Six COVID-19 vaccines - Serum Institute's Covishield, Bharat Biotech's Covaxin, Zydus Cadila's ZyCoV-D, Russia's Sputnik V and the US-made Moderna and Johnson and Johnson - had already received EUA from the Indian drug regulator earlier.
Till Tuesday morning, India recorded 653 cases of the Omicron variant. With 167 patients, Maharashtra topped the list while Delhi was close behind with 165 cases. In light of the surge in Omicron cases, most state governments have enforced Covid-safety curbs, including night curfew. The government has also approved Corbevax and Covovax Covid vaccines and anti-viral drug Molnupiravir for restricted use on adults in emergency situations.
