Appalachian State Track and Field Teams Compete at Seahawk Teal Invitational

App State women’s outdoor track & field won five events at the season opening Wendy’s Seahawk Teal Invitational on Saturday.
The 4×100-meter relay tandem of Taylor Smith, Jessica Dixon, Maya Hanks and LaBria King won the event in 46.73 seconds. The team of Jelonnie Smith, Samara Gibson, Ani Judd and Nevaeh Haddock finished right behind in second with a time of 47.27 seconds.
Dixon won the 400-meter dash in 56.37 seconds, with Jelonnie Smith right behind in second place with a time of 57.03 seconds. Dixon added another victory in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.94 seconds, with Taylor Smith finishing second in 25.27 seconds.

The meet was unscored.
The Mountaineers saw a pair of runners enter the top-10 in program history in the 1,000-meter run. Bianca Copeman placed second in the event with a time of 3:09.41, while Faith Younts finished right behind in third-place in 3:09.58. Copeman’s time ranks sixth in program history and Younts’ mark sits eighth.
Taylor Smith had a strong day, capturing the long jump with a mark of 18-9.25 (5.72m). Smith also competed in the 60-meter dash, qualifying fourth with a time of 7.73 seconds. In the finals, she crossed in 7.75 seconds to finish sixth.
There was no team scoring in the meet.
The Mountaineers made a strong showing in the 5,000-meter run, taking the top-three spots. Reilly Caldwell crossed first in 18:21.16, Lila Peters was second with a time of 18:23.74 and Bridget Kunkel rounded out the top-three with a third-place finish in a PR time of 18:26.56.
App State claimed the top two spots in the long jump with Maya Hanks capturing first in 18-10.75 (5.76m) and Nevaeh Haddock placing second with a mark of 18-4.25 (5.59m).
Celia Agee won the pole vault by six inches, clearing 11-5.75 (3.50m). Casey Meinert finished in a tie for second with a mark of 10-11.75 (3.35m) and Silvanna Curtain placed eighth with a height of 10-6.00 (3.20m).
