It was 11.45 pm on Tuesday. Shopping malls and markets usually remain shut at this hour of the day. But, the bustling shopping district for clothing and lifestyle items in the Mirpur-1 area was abuzz with shoppers.
The fire at Bangabazar on Tuesday morning not only affected shop owners at the apparel shopping complex in Dhaka's Gulistan, but also other players in the supply chain.
Shop-owners desperate to stay afloat
“Brother, what do you need?” Shop assistants line the roads in the capital’s Bangshal to identify potential customers from passers-by. Keeping shutters down so as to not draw the attention of law enforcers for not abiding by the ongoing lockdown restrictions, they try to continue their trade of selling motorcycle parts and accessories. Once a product is sought, they scurry away into the alleys for its retrieval from storage. The transaction completes right on the street. The photo was taken recently. Photo: Palash Khan
Anyone visiting Dhaka s Bangshal road, known for spare parts of bikes and bicycles, would see a different scene.
