In a dramatic turn of events in Nepalese politics, KP Sharma Oli has been reappointed as the countryâs Prime Minister (PM) as the opposition parties failed to muster a majority in the Parliament in Kathmandu, reports

After PM Oli had lost the crucial trust vote held on Monday (10 May), Nepalese President Bidya Devi Bhandari had asked the opposition parties to come up with the support of majority lawmakers to form a new government by 9 pm on Thursday (yesterday).
Following this, Sher Bahadur Deuba led Nepali Congress (NC) had announced its intention to stake a claim for the PMâs post. Deuba had also gained the support of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal âPrachandaâ.
Oli will now have to take a vote of confidence at the House within 30 days, failing which, an attempt to form a government under Article 76 (5) of the Constitution would be initiated.

Kathmandu: KP Sharma Oli, in his capacity as leader of the largest political party in Nepal s Parliament, was reappointed as Prime Minister on Thursday (May 13) after the Opposition parties, riddled by factionalism, failed to secure majority seats in the House to form a new government. President Bidya Devi Bhandari has reappointed CPN-UML Chairman Oli, 69, as Prime Minister, after he lost a trust vote in the House of Representatives on Monday.
The Office of President in a press statement on Thursday evening said that President Bhandari reappointed Oli as Prime Minister in his capacity as leader of the largest political party in the House of Representatives as per Article 78(3) of the Constitution of Nepal. President Bhandari will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Oli at a ceremony at Shital Niwas on Friday.

The political stalemate comes at a time when the country is experiencing its worst COVID-19 surge with acute shortages of health facilities and oxygen for patients.
