That work included the closure of an access way to the NMIT Richmond campus, which is on the opposite side of Lower Queen St from Berryfield Drive. The main carriageway was widened while the Berryfield Drive traffic Island was shortened and a new turning marked in the newly created space. Council transportation manager Jamie McPherson said the outcome would not have been possible without the support and agreement of NMIT. McPherson urged drivers to take care while they familiarised themselves with the new intersection layout. The temporary fix comes after the delay to the planned permanent upgrade sparked concern among councillors and other members of the community.
