For the second time in less than a week, Nelson Fire Rescue & Services responded to a grass fire, this time one that was out of control and threatening a home on Granite Road.
Thursday, shortly before noon, Nelson Fire Rescue & Services firefighters attended the approximate 17,000 square foot area grass fire that was burning brush, garden areas and numerous trees.
“The first arriving crew’s primary objective was to ensure the fire was not threating any of the nearby homes or structures,” Nelson Fire Rescue & Services media release said.

Residents of lower Uphill received a scare Tuesday morning after a contractor ruptured a gas line, causing substantial gas leak Nelson Fire and Rescue Services said in a media release.
The call came in at 11:28 to Nelson Fire & Rescue Services of a reported gas line being severed during excavation in an alleyway in lower Uphill, between Hall and Josephine Streets.

After 20 years of service, retiring Nelson Police Chief Constable Paul Burkart is going out in style.
The Chief Constable is being sent off into the frigid waters of Kootenay Lake from the end of the Hall Street dock as Burkart, takes the plunge to raise money for BC Special Olympics FreezinforaReason Campaign with the Cold in the Koots fundraiser.
Burkart, who will be replaced next month by incoming NPD Chief Constable Donovan Fisher, is being joined by Chief Len MacCharles of Nelson Fire Rescue Services and Chief Deb Morris of BC Ambulance Services.
