there are arguments that the regime is stronger because the people of iran now feel betrayed by the american government. staying in the iran deal would have allowed there to be some cleaving off of the iranian people from the hardliners in the government but pulling out of it is only made america look like the bad guy and only strengthened the bond between the hardliners and the iranian people against the united states. look. you may be right, katy. you can t base foreign policy on bringing about regime change. we have got to deal with this iranian government and the fact is the choices are essentially risking going to war or having some serious diplomacy. we don t need a meeting as of yet between this president and the iranian president but you do need america and iranian officials to begin to meet and ultimately we put pressure on iran but toward what end? the government there won t yell uncle.
