A 16-year-old Black girl was fatally shot by an officer outside of her home after she called the police for help on Tuesday afternoon, according to her family.
The girl has been identified as Ma Khia Bryant by her aunt, Hazel Bryant.
Bryant allegedly called officers at about 4:30 p.m. local time when a group of older kids threatened her with assault, her aunt told Ohio Statehouse News Bureau Reporter Andy Chow. She did not elaborate on the nature of the threat.
The Columbus Police Department could not say on Tuesday whether Bryant was the one to call for assistance before she was shot.

Two persons have been reportedly killed in a renewed cult clash between rival groups in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
DAILY POST gathered that the rivalry between the cult groups began on Saturday following the killing of one Ogbomo allegedly by a rival group.

Authorities in Ohio have identified the Columbus police officer who fatally shot 16-year-old Ma’khia Bryant on Tuesday with a city official calling the incident a “horrendous tragedy” but urging the public to be patient as the investigation continues.
Officer Nicholas Reardon, one of several cops who responded to the chaotic scene, was identified Wednesday as the one who killed the knife-wielding Black teen. He has been a Columbus police officer since December 2019 and is being placed on administrative leave, officials said at a news conference.
