Noles Place 30 on All-ACC Academic Teams

Tallahassee, Fla.  – The Florida State swimming and diving teams placed 30 student-athletes on the 2023 All-ACC Academic teams. The men’s team produced a league-leading 15 selections, which tied NC State. “We are so proud of our student-athletes that were recognized,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “Florida State is one of the best public schools in the nation and we take pride in holding ourselves to a high academic standard. These 30 Seminoles have represented FSU at the highest level both in our sport and academically and we’re thrilled they’re being recognized for their hard work.” Tazman Abramowicz, Arijus Pavlidi, Nick Mason, Jesco Helling, Izzy Gregersen, Jenny Halden, Maddie McDonald and Anna Metzler also earned CSC (College Sports Communicatiors) Academic All-District Honors for NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving prior to the end of the 2022-23 season. Yanchev Smashes Career Best to Close NCAAs

Minneapolis, Minn.  – The No.22 Florida State men’s swimming and diving closed out the 2023 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. Yordan Yanchev turned in the highlight of the day, clocking a new personal best by almost 12 seconds in the 1650 free at 14:56.18. Yanchev swam down Alex Zettle of Texas in the final 100 yards to claim the heat one win by just under two-tenths of a second. He finished 25th overall. Yanchev secured the third-fastest time in FSU history, after swimming the eighth at the ACC Championships (15:08.13) this season. “That was a big swim by Yordan,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “Nearly dropping 12 seconds after he swam his best mile just about a month ago was a big highlight of the meet. I am very proud of our guys. I thought we had a good meet overall.” Arijus Pavlidi led off prelims by clocking 1:42.70 in the 200 back, finishing 33rd. Varjasi Clocks Season Best at NCAAs

Minneapolis, Minn.  – All four student-athlete representing the No. 22 Florida State men’s swimming and diving team were in action at the 2023 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday. Peter Varjasi and Yordan Yanchev competed in the 200 free, while Arijus Pavlidi swam the 100 back. Tazman Abramowicz made his fifth appearance at the NCAA Championships, competing in the men’s 3-meter springboard. Varjasi clocked a season-best in the 200 free, touching at 1:34.16 and Yanchev followed at 1:34.88. Varjasi is scheduled to compete in the 100 free, while Yanchev is entered in the 1650 free. Pavlidi swam a time of 46.91 in the 100 back, touching for 39th place. Pavlidi is set to swim his specialty, the 200 back on Saturday. Abramowicz received marks between 5.0-7.0 on each of his six dives to score 336.60 for 30th place. He will compete in platform on Saturday to close out his collegiate career. Jernstedt Earns All-America Honor to Close NCAAs

Knoxville, Tenn.  – Florida State swimmer Edith Jernstedt closed the 2022-23 season by earning an All-America honor in the 200 fly at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center. Jernstedt finished 13th in the race, touching with a time of 1:55.15, producing the highest finish in the race at NCAAs since Chelsea Britt finished eighth at the 2015 meet. She is the fifth Seminole in history to earn an All-America honor in the 200 fly. “It was a great day to finish off a very special season with these amazing ladies,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “I love the progress we made this year and I’m so excited for the future.” Jernstedt qualified for her first NCAA final in 12th place after clocking her personal best at 1:54.64, inching her closer to Britt’s FSU record (1:53.68). Her swim at finals was the second-fastest of her career. In prelims, Maddy Huggins led the way for the Noles in the 200 breast, touching with a time of 2:10.9

Metzler Wraps Up Career, Huggins Contributes Personal Best

NCAA Championship Site  Knoxville, Tenn.  – The Florida State women’s swimming and diving team had four student-athletes competing on Friday at the 2023 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center. Anna Metzler closed out her career by finishing 19th in the 400 IM, improving her seed from 28th, touching at 4:10.35, which was just off her season best of 4:10.18. Edith Jernstedt finished third in the heat two of the 100 fly, touching at 52.73 for 38th overall. The swim was just off her season best (52.54). Jernstedt will compete in her specialty, the 200 fly on Saturday. Maddy Huggins swam her personal best in the 100 breast at 1:00.25, touching second in heat two for 38th overall.
