A 40-year-old man was caught red-handed in possession of alcohol with a street value of R48 800 last week.
During their patrols on Jan van Riebeeck Drive, Mbekweni police pulled over a white Ford bakkie and found 244 5-litre bottles of alcohol before arresting the driver.
Mbekweni police spokesperson Sgt Nceba Vanqa said the suspect was headed to Magnolia flats in Klein Nederburg to drop off the alcohol. The wine was believed to be transported from Fair Horizons farm.
The suspect, who’s name is not known to the publication, was released on R5 000 bail.

Yet another cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery has hit the Drakenstein area this month. The latest incident took place at the Shoprite Midway Centre in Mbekweni on Monday around 08:00.
According to Mbekweni police spokesperson Sgt Nceba Vanqa, seven unknown men approached the G4 Security official as he was coming out of Shoprite with cash.
âThey pointed a firearm at him, demanding the money and his service pistol,â he said. âThey fled the scene with an undisclosed cash amount and the firearm.â
The box, with ink-stain capability, in which the money was transported was found abandoned in the Thembani Square area in Mbekweni.
