Yet another cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery has hit the Drakenstein area this month. The latest incident took place at the Shoprite Midway Centre in Mbekweni on Monday around 08:00.
According to Mbekweni police spokesperson Sgt Nceba Vanqa, seven unknown men approached the G4 Security official as he was coming out of Shoprite with cash.
âThey pointed a firearm at him, demanding the money and his service pistol,â he said. âThey fled the scene with an undisclosed cash amount and the firearm.â
The box, with ink-stain capability, in which the money was transported was found abandoned in the Thembani Square area in Mbekweni.

Close to R1 million was stolen last Thursday morning (3 December) during a cash in transit robbery in Paarl CBD.
Police spokesperson Capt Louise du Plessis said that at 06:30 a Fidelity armed response vehicle was in the process of offloading Sassa funds at Shoprite when they were robbed at gun point of some of the cash containers.
Du Plessis said that when two of the guards climbed out of the vehicle and loaded the cash containers onto a trolley, they were confronted by armed suspects.
The suspects held them at gun point while another suspect took the containers. They fled the scene in a white Toyota bakkie. None of the guards were injured in the process.
