16 Naxals surrender in Chhattisgarh s Bijapur district

Bijapur, Apr 30 (PTI) Amid a crackdown by security forces on Left Wing Extremism, at least 16 Naxals, including the two carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 13 lakh on their heads, surrendered in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday.

In Chhattisgarh s Bijapur district, 16 Naxals surrendered, including Arun Kadti and Ramesh Hemla, with bounties totaling Rs 13 lakh on their heads. Kadti was involved in an attack on security forces in Sukma in 2024, while Hemla was a high-ranking Naxal leader with numerous warrants pending against him. They were given immediate assistance and will be provided with rehabilitation facilities. Additionally, in a separate encounter, ten Naxals were killed on the border of Narayanpur and Kanker districts, continuing the crackdown on Left Wing Extremism in the region.

The Dantewada Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Pallava told ANI, Today 15 surrendered Naxalites tied the knot here. Among them, there were many who fell in love while they were a part of the Naxal outfit but they were not permitted to marry. The Dantewada police has been carrying out a Ghar Wapasi campaign under which around 300 Naxalites surrendered within a time span of six months.
