Photo by David Marks, Naval Hospital Twentynine Palms In recognition of its organized approach to promoting healthy lifestyles, Naval Hospital Twentynine Palms (NHTP) has earned the annual Blue-H Award from the Navy Surgeon General for the ninth consecutive year. Tanya Stuckey, public health specialist in the Directorate for Public Health, is being credited for compiling the Blue-H Award submission.

Twentynine Palms Marines and sailors started receiving vaccinations for COVID-19 last week. In a joint-unit vaccine inoculation exercise outside the Combat Center’s West Gym, medical personnel from the Naval Hospital Twentynine Palms started administering the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to Marines from various units on the base, including 3rd Battalion, 11th Marines and 1st Tanks Battalion. Corp. Zackary Blok, assigned to the 1st Tanks, said he is comfortable taking the vaccine. “I have a lot of friends who have taken it and nothing’s happened to them; so I feel pretty good about it.” The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine received emergency-use authorization from the FDA after an analysis of 30,351 participants in a randomized trial.

She loves working with people and gains satisfaction from returning them to what they love doing. “It’s really rewarding to get people back to their goals,” she said. “I really love the aspect of working one-on-one with a patient. Getting them back to doing something that they love, whether it’s working out, playing sports, or just being able to play with their children again without pain is hugely rewarding.”
