A student from Utah’s Tuacahn High School for the Arts in southern Utah won a prestigious national award in theatre.
“I just started bawling my eyes out because I knew how much this was going to change for me. And I’m just so grateful, Rebekah Uyleman said.
Uyleman, a senior at Tuacahn High School for the Arts won the National Young Arts competition in the category of theatre.
This makes her one of a handful of individuals from the state who have received the honor, and likely the only Utahn to win the award for theatre.

Joel Dichter s mother knew he was destined to be a ballet dancer when she took the tot to see a touring production of The Nutcracker. There was a scene where the Snow King lifts up the Snow Queen. He jumped out of my lap, split my lip open, and screamed like he was at a football game, Cathy Dichter recalled. The woman in front of me turned around in the middle of the production and said, If you don t put him in ballet tomorrow, I ll be very upset.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. A Staten Island high school student has been named a 2021 finalist in a prestigious young artists competition.
Elizabeth Shvarts, a student at Staten Island Technical High School, was named a 2021 National YoungArts Foundation Finalist in the Play or Script category the organization’s highest honor. Shvarts has been recognized for her caliber of artistic achievement and joins 659 of the nation’s most accomplished artists in the visual, literacy, and performing arts.
Niya Rashaan Smith of Atlanta, a Pebblebrook High School student, has been named a 2021 National YoungArts Foundation finalist in Dance.
Smith was recognized for her caliber of artistic achievement and joins 659 of the nationâs most accomplished artists in the visual, literary and performing arts. She was selected by a discipline-specific panel of artists through a rigorous blind adjudication process.
