Key figures in the Indian startup ecosystem celebrated National Startup Day on January 16, discussing the challenges and opportunities for entrepreneurs in the country.
Leaders of the Narendra Modi government celebrated National Startup Day, highlighting India s position as the third-largest startup ecosystem. Commerce minister Piyush Goyal praised the eight years of the BJP government s Startup India programme, emphasizing India s emergence as a global startup hub.
Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu shared the recognition with Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. In the startup ranking, while Himachal Pradesh is placed among Category-B states, the others are Category-A states.
Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan described this the “proudest moment” for the state. “It comes as a testament to Kerala s unwavering commitment in fostering a robust startup ecosystem, exemplified by a series of initiatives under @startup mission. This propels our prospects of becoming a knowledge economy,” he wrote on social media platform X.
