India has successfully isolated and cultured the new more infectious strain of Covid-19, which had originated in Britain recently, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Saturday said.
Taking to Twitter, the country s apex medical body wrote: UK-variant of the virus, with all signature changes, is now successfully isolated and cultured at the National Institute of Virology (NIV) from the clinical specimens collected from UK-returnees.

The Finnish Medicines Agency has received the first report of an adverse reaction to the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine against coronavirus a week after Europe started its mass immunization campaign, the Finnish YLE broadcaster reported on Saturday.
The EU member states launched the bloc-wide vaccination program on December 27, the next day after receiving their first shipments of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine following the European Commission s authorization.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver the inaugural address at the National Metrology Conclave on January 4 via video conferencing.
National Metrology Conclave 2020 is being organised by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Physical Laboratory (CSIR-NPL), New Delhi, which is entering into its 75th year of inception. The theme of the conclave is Metrology for the Inclusive Growth of the Nation . According to the Prime Minister s Office, Modi will also dedicate National Atomic Timescale , and Bhartiya Nirdeshak Dravya to the nation, and lay the foundation stone of the National Environmental Standards Laboratory . Union Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan will also be present on the occasion.

New Delhi: The government will provide free vaccines to most prioritised beneficiaries inlcuding1 crore healthcare and 2 crore frontline workers, in the first phase of covid-19 vaccination that is expected to begin soon, union health minister Harsh Vardhan said on Saturday.
