Buccoo Reef ferry closer to home

The newest ferry in the national fleet the Buccoo Reef is one step closer to Trinidad and Tobago as she makes her journey home, with over 5,000 nautical miles left to go before she docks at the Port of Port of Spain. According to a news release from the National Infrastructure Development Company Limited (NIDCO), the Buccoo Reef departed the Port of Pape’ete, Tahiti, French Polynesia today at 1:30 a.m. (local time).  The vessel had arrived at that port of call on Tuesday16th March 2021, for bunkering.

THA to expedite construction works on Parlatuvier Jetty

(Image: VINDRA GOPAUL) Residents of Parlatuvier are being given assurances that the Parlatuvier Jetty will receive the necessary attention it desperately needs as soon as critical funds become available to make that happen. Confirmation has come from the Division of Infrastructure, Quarries and the Environment (DIQE) in the Tobago House of Assembly (THA). “DIQE is aware of the problems surrounding and assures residents and the wider public that plans have been in train to obtain the financing to treat with the issues affecting the fishermen of Parlatuvier and users of the jetty,” a release from the Division says.

Security for APT James to prevent sabotage—Minister

Image courtesy the National Infrastructure Development Company Limited (NIDCO) “Political mischief”, is how the Works and Transport Minister is describing claims that the incoming fast ferry the APT James is not safe, and he has confirmed that Government will hire security to ensure the vessel is not sabotaged. Speaking on CNC3’s The Morning Brew, Minister Rohan Sinanan said the vessel is expected to arrive this weekend, and he expects it will be in operation at month’s end. Notwithstanding the newness of the vessel, the Opposition Leader read out a report earlier this week that highlighted six deficiencies.  Questioning its seaworthiness, Kamla Persad Bissessar SC MP said they included a lack of proper certification and documents, missing fire safety equipment and a lack of proper structural access points to vital areas of the ship.
