After a day of massive and peaceful protest, there are major developments in the killing of george floyd. All four of the former Minneapolis Police officers involved in his death are now they are facing charges. And former officer Derek Chauvin, who pressed his knee into floyds neck, now facing more serious, upgraded count an upgraded count of seconddegree murder. And three others were charged with aiding and abetting seconddegree murder. And, in the face of all those protests, the former defense secretary, james mattis, launching a steaming rebuke of President Trump, accusing him of trying to divide the country, instead of trying to unite the american people. And saying, and i quote, we are witnessing the consequences of three years without mature leadership. Protestors out in the streets of los angeles tonight, where a curfew has just taken effect. Dallas that lifted their curfews. The protests have been, for the most part, peaceful and most part, powerful. As people remembered floyd and other africanamerican men unarmed whose lives were cut far too short by police. In North Carolina today, the town where floyd was born. Supporters held a memorial for him. In kentucky, balloons were released for breonna taylor, an emt shot 8 times in her own home by police executing a warrant in search of another person. And in the nations capitol, the words black lives matter. Look at this. This is just remarkable. Black lives matter em blazened on the road that leads straight to the white house. The letters so large, they can be seen from space. Thats what youre looking at. Across the way on capitol hill, a new development in the floyd case. His brother will testify before congress this week. In washington, protesters have been making their voices heard outside the white house, the capitol and the lincoln memorial. Steve . Jon, something has happened here. The details of yet we are still trying to determine. Reports from people who running away from the bridge behind me say that a semitruck has plowed into a group of people. We dont know anything about the identity of the driver of the truck or the injuries. The likelihood that something traumatic did happen is because we have seen about 20 police cars, full sirens racing off to the bridge about half mile in front of us. We are on the way now to see what happened. This is part of a large protest movement, a huge crowd, filling the road, so any driver there would have had to deal with large crowd, whether it was deliberate, whether it was an accident, whether it was out of impatience, we dont know. We dont know the extent of the damages, but certainly this could set off more trouble here if these facts turn out to be true.
