The Director-General of the ITF, Joseph Ari, who launched the phone, dubbed, “ITF Mobile” at the 12th National Council on Industry, Trade and Investment held in Abuja recently, said the organisation had been in the process of trade-marking and certifying the phone with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).
The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo and Ambassador Mariam Katagum, received the made-in-Nigeria smart-phone for onward transmission to President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
In an interview in his office, Ari said the homegrown technology was produced under the supervision of the training manager, Mrs Yinka Shodunke.

Abuja, Dec. 9, 2020 The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) has produced a 4D smart mobile cell phone from locally sourced materials.
Sir Joseph Ari, Director-General of ITF, showcased the indigenously produced phone at the opening of the Physical/Virtual 12th National Council on Industry, Trade and Investment on Wednesday in Abuja.
Ari officially presented five phones to Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, and the state minister, Amb. Mariam Katagum, at the 12th council meeting.
The ITF boss said together with its trainees from its Model Skill Training Centre located in Abuja, it was able to produce its first 4D cell phones with all the components obtainable in any mobile unit.

Abuja, Dec. 8, 2020 The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment said it had adopted different strategies that would drive its campaign on ‘Patronage of Made-in-Nigeria’ initiative, aimed at shifting consumer’s taste for foreign goods to locally produced ones.
Mr Suleiman Audu, Director, Commodities and Export Department of the ministry, said this on Tuesday in Abuja at the Physical/Virtual technical session of the 12th National Council on Industry, Trade and Investment.
Audu spoke on “Sustaining the Made-in-Nigeria Campaign through the Revitalisation of the Industry, Trade and Investment Sub-sectors in Nigeria in Post-COVID-19 Pandemic Era”.
In order to reduce reliance on imported consumer goods, Audu said the ministry, in 2009 initiated a Council Memo on the need for the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to give backing to the strategies.

The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Niyi Adebayo, said the federal government has so far disbursed a total sum of N12.4 billion to micro, small and medium sized enterprises (MSMEs) through the Bank of Industry (BoI) as part of efforts to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking at the opening of the 12th meeting of the National Council on Industry, Trade and Investment (NCITI), in Abuja, with the theme:”Revitalisation of the Industry, Trade and Investment Sector in Nigeria in the Post COVID-19 Pandemic Era,” he said the risks of the pandemic was being mitigated by the government by exploring ways to catalyse and sustain production, creating supply chains, preventing market disruption through efforts to alleviate the financial impact on small businesses.
