The Kano branch of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has called for the proper positioning of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) at the nation’s entry points in preparation for the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA). National Vice President of MAN, North West Zone, Alhaji Ali Madugu made the call in Kano while receiving the Director General, SON, Mallam Farouk Salim who was on a working visit to the state recently. According to him, the commencement of the AfCFTA further underscores the need for SON’s presence at the entry points to prevent Nigeria from being turned into a dumping ground of substandard, fake and counterfeited products from other African Countries.

The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Richard Adeniyi Adebayo has told the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Jarome Pasquier that it’s time to invest more in the country, especially in the area of Agro-Allied Industries, Mining Sector, Information Technology, Transportation and Energy among others. Adebayo commended French Companies operating in Nigeria which has culminated into massive inflow of Foreign Direct Investment into the country, adding that this has contributed immensely in providing job opportunities to the Nigerian youth. The Minister made this known when he recently hosted a working visit of the French official to his office in Abuja.

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has offered its hands of fellowship and collaboration to stakeholders in the health care delivery sector in Nigeria, in order to enhance the quality of equipment, machinery and services being offered in the sector. SON Director General, Mallam Farouk Salim made the offer recently in a goodwill message to the 45th National Convention of the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigerian Students (PANS), held at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Represented by Engr. Ugochukwu Nwachukwu, the SON Chief Executive stated that the offshore conformity assessment programme for SON regulated imports (SONCAP) provides a window of import permit for raw materials, equipment and machinery and urged stakeholders to take optimum advantage of it to improve the quality of products being offered to Nigerians.

As the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) takes off today, January 1, 2021, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo has called on Nigerians, particularly industrialists, to take advantage of the inherent opportunities in the deal to promote made-in-Nigeria goods and boost exports. AfCFTA, the world’s largest free trade area in terms of the number of participating countries, has been slated to commence on January 1, signaling the implementation of the much-awaited implementation of Africa’s single market. Ifedayo Sayo, Special Assistant on Media, to the the Minister, in a statement said Nigeria cannot afford to be left out of the emerging trade bloc, as AfCTA is a $3.4 trillion opportunity Nigeria must play a leading role.
