Jack Capuano (Cranston, R.I.), associate coach of the NHL’s Ottawa Senators, has been named head coach of the 2021 U.S. Men’s National Team that will compete in the upcoming International Ice Hockey Federation Men’s World Championship May 21-June 6 in Riga, Latvia.
Capuano will be joined by assistant coaches Nate Leaman (Providence, R.I./Providence College) and Adam Nightingale (Cheboygan, Mich./NTDP). In addition Kevin Reiter (Pittsburgh, Penn./NTDP) will serve as goaltending coach and Mike King (Center Conway, N.H./Ottawa Senators) as video coach.
“We’re extremely fortunate to have an outstanding coaching staff, led by Jack Capuano,” said Chris Drury, general manager of the U.S. Men’s National Team. “Their involvement with USA Hockey in various ways over the course of time and combined international experience will be of great benefit as we head into the tournament.”

The IIHF World Championship will begin in less than two weeks and the U.S. team now has a head coach. National team GM Chris Druryannounced Monday that Jack Capuano will lead the squad, with Nate Leaman and Adam Nightingale serving as assistants. Kevin Reiter will be the goaltending coach and Mike King the video coach for the event, which opens May 21 in Riga, Latvia.
Drury released a short statement: We’re extremely fortunate to have an outstanding coaching staff, led by Jack Capuano. Their involvement with USA Hockey in various ways over the course of time and combined international experience will be of great benefit as we head into the tournament.

In a tweet earlier today, USA Hockey announced that former New York Islanders head coach, Jack Capuano, will serve as the head coach of Team USA in the 2021 IIHF World Championships in Riga, Latvia. This is the fourth time that Capuano has been involved with Team USA as a coach, having last served as an assistant coach with Team USA at the same tournament in 2017.

Capuano currently works as an associate coach on D.J. Smith s staff with the Ottawa Senators, a job he has had since the beginning of the 2019-20 season. That said, Capuano is best-known for his stint with the New York Islanders organization, working with the club from 2005 through 2017. He began as an assistant coach with the NHL club, before working as both an assistant and head coach with their AHL affiliate in Bridgeport.
