Hatfield taps veteran educator as interim schools chief >Published: 7/7/2021 9:03:15 PM HATFIELD An educator with nearly 30 years of school leadership experience will begin his tenure as interim superintendent of Hatfield public schools Monday. The Hatfield School Committee announced this week that Michael Wood, previously assistant superintendent for special education in Malden, will replace Martin McEvoy as superintendent. McEvoy left the position he held for a year at the end of June. “My goals are to get to know the system, the people who work there and live there, and what their hopes and dreams are for education,” Wood said. Wood said he applied for the position because the skills he could bring would be a good match. The Hatfield district consists of Smith Academy and Hatfield Elementary School.

Nashoba school project invited to feasibility study portion of state process

The district has been working on preliminary studies for the last year. “These feasibility studies will carefully examine potential solutions to the issues identified at the school facilities and will help us develop the most cost-effective plan to address those issues,” said Treasurer Deborah Goldberg, who is chair of the authority. “We look forward to partnering with the Districts to move these potential projects forward.” The MSBA partners with Massachusetts communities to support the design and construction of educationally appropriate, flexible, sustainable and cost-effective public school facilities. Since its 2004 inception, the Authority has made over 1,750 site visits to more than 250 school districts as part of its due diligence process and has made over $15.1 billion in reimbursements for school construction projects.

The vote April 7 followed a thoughtful, collaborative process to explore mascot ideas from the broader school community and to retire the Chieftains nickname.  The process was guided by a Mascot Committee composed of administrators, teachers, coaches, alumni, and high school students. “This collaborative process has been just one example of how teamwork is at the heart of everything we do in the district,” Clenchy stated in the release.  “It’s fitting that our community has chosen Wolves – whose packs are known for their teamwork as well as their individual strengths – as the new symbol of Nashoba Regional High School.”
