FALL RIVER The Narrows Center for the Arts will present a live-streamed concert with Greg Abate on Friday, Feb. 26 at 8 p.m.
RI-based Abate is known the world over as a master of the alto saxophone and a hard core bebopper, but he does much more.
He is also proficient on the soprano, tenor and baritone saxes, as well as the flute. He is also a respected composer; some of his 17 CDs consist of only his own songs, while others feature standards along with his own pieces.
Abate is one of a diminishing number of jazz artists who travel the world non-stop, often more than 225 days a year, performing in clubs and at festivals, giving clinics at schools and colleges and regularly releasing highly regarded and reviewed recordings which make the top 20 on the JazzWeek national radio chart. In 2016 he was inducted into the RI Music Hall of Fame.
FALL RIVER From the venue, to the sets, to the production, the TV special “Christmas in Fall River with The Sons of Serendip” showcases of the spirit of collaboration in the city, said Mayor Paul Coogan.
The concert that was filmed at the Narrows Center for the Arts a few weeks ago will be airing in a prime time slot on Saturday night on the CW Network in Providence.
Coogan brought the “America’s Got Talent” finalists to the city last December in collaboration with the Narrows Center for the Arts for a holiday concert in lieu of an inaugural event. That was concert was so popular with attendees, Coogan said he wanted to repeat it again this year.
