No injuries in Naperville motel fire

No injuries were reported in a fire at a two-story motel in Naperville Tuesday night, authorities said.
The Naperville Fire Department responded to the 800 block of East Ogden Avenue around 7:20 p.m. and found a motel room on the second floor was on fire, according to a news release.
Everyone in the motel was evacuated, and firefighters stretched a hose line to the second floor. Crews extinguished the blaze in 10 minutes, preventing it from spreading to the rest of the motel
No one was found inside the room, which is now uninhabitable, the news release said.

Acknowledging the importance and complexity of increasing Naperville s affordable housing stock, the 11 candidates running for city council have varying ideas for achieving what has been a long-standing community goal.
While some council hopefuls support exploring the adoption of an inclusionary zoning ordinance a policy that would set affordable housing requirements for residential developers other concepts floated during Daily Herald endorsement interviews ranged from development incentives to the preservation of existing housing units.
John Krummen and Benny White are seeking to retain two of the four open seats. Their challengers in the April 6 election are Jennifer Bruzan Taylor, Vasavi Chakka, Lucy Chang Evans, Jim Haselhorst, Ian Holzhauer, Paul Leong, Allison Longenbaugh, Vincent Ory and Mark Urda.
Authorities are searching for two men who robbed a Naperville liquor store at gunpoint Sunday night. Authorities suspect the same pair robbed a Downers Grove 7-Eleven near 63rd and Main streets about two hours later.

With a goal of strengthening relationships between police and civilians, a Naperville-based organization is working to provide opportunities to improve but maintain the essence of a controversial criminal justice reform bill signed this week by Gov. J.B. Pritzker.
The passage of House Bill 3653, known as the Safe-T Act, was a significant step toward holding law enforcement accountable and ensuring equity in the criminal justice system, said Regina Brent, founder and president of Unity Partnership.
