Naperville, utility association offering scholarships

Naperville is holding a scholarship competition for high school seniors whose parents or guardians are city utility customers.
Offered in partnership with the Illinois Municipal Utilities Association, the program aims to recognize scholastic achievement and raise awareness about the issues facing public power municipalities and consumers, according to a city news release.
Eligible students are asked to submit an application, along with an essay of 500 words or less addressing their choice of a utilty-related question, officials said. The top four applicants will receive a finalist certificate and a $1,000 scholarship.

A car wash could be added to the growing list of new Naperville businesses slated to boost dormant properties along East Ogden Avenue.
Jet Brite, a family-owned company with locations throughout the Western suburbs, has proposed tearing down a shuttered restaurant and constructing an express car wash facility at 780 and 850 E. Ogden Ave.

Set to begin a hybrid learning model next week, Indian Prairie Unit District 204 is looking ahead to possible COVID-19 screening and vaccination strategies to support its reopening plans.
The voluntary surveillance test would not be diagnostic, but it could help identify potential virus cases among staff members and students in some grade levels, Superintendent Adrian Talley said this week. Other nearby districts, including Naperville Unit District 203 and Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200, are implementing similar screening procedures this month.
District 204 school board members are expected to hear a presentation Jan. 25 about the testing program, including the terms of a proposed contract and details pertaining to who will qualify.

Loaves & Fishes Community Services has acquired an Aurora warehouse that will help the nonprofit revamp its strategy for delivering food and services.
The new 30,000-square-foot facility at 580 Exchange Court will serve as the organization s central hub, where food products will be received, stored, processed and distributed to what leaders are calling the spokes, CEO Mike Havala said.
