Petition signed by 350,000 people calling for Olympics to be called off is submitted to organisers

The pressure to call off the Olympics has increased after a petition signed by 350,000 people was submitted to organisers. Host city Tokyo is under a state of emergency following a rising number of coronavirus cases across Japan with just 10 weeks to go until the Games are due to begin. Kenji Utsunomiya, a 74-year-old lawyer, launched the Stop Tokyo Olympics campaign last week and his petition contains signatures from 133 countries.  Lawyer Kenji Utsunomiya (above) launched the Stop Tokyo Olympics campaign last week Activists hold placards to protest against the 2020 Olympic Games amid a Covid outbreak  RELATED ARTICLES

We made the request (to the government) as we think medical workers have to speak up,” Naoto Ueyama, the head of the national doctor’s union, said in a press conference on Thursday.
