Longtime Metro official Nancy Whittemore has retired, the Department of General Services announced Thursday.
Her last day was Thursday, and assistant Velvet Hunter will lead the department in an interim capacity in the coming months. Whittemore has led that department where responsibilities include building and fleet management, sustainability and construction and design since 2004. Previously, she served as assistant finance director for Metro and in positions with the Tennessee Department of Finance and Administration, Tennessee Department of Human Services, Governor’s State Planning Office and the Knoxville-Knox County Foster Grandparent Program. Whittemore holds degrees from the University of Tennessee and Tennessee State University.
