But it did have popularity in some quarters obviously. I think it was because of the structural contradictions of a post Colonial Society like egypt which, you know, from the 70s from the late 70s the Egyptian Government was seen by a lot of egyptians as more or less collaborating with israel in keeping the palestinians down and then the religious authorities, they didnt really do anything about that. Of course, a lot of them were appointed by the government. They would have been fired if they had spoken out. Its kind of like in any society when something is going on that the young people feel is just wrong, then you get protests and sometimes even violence.
