On Thursday, May 18 Cary Medical Center hosted the virtual conference “Turning the Tide on Lung Cancer” highlighting the importance of low dose CT lung cancer screening. Two keynote speakers, Dr. Kim-Lori Sandler and Dr. Michael Gieske, addressed their respective work and research as it relates to lung cancer screening.
Cary Medical Center has received the second year of funding to increase awareness related to Low Dose CT Lung Cancer Screening. The award of $20,000 will help support a broad range of health information activities along with a professional education program in the spring of 2023.
The Caribou Public Library will host a special informational session with Cary Medical Center Health Educator, Nancy Holmquist from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24, and Thursday, Aug. 25.
Thanks to grant funding received from Maine Cancer Foundation, Cary Medical Center’s Screen Aroostook for Lung Cancer initiative will be working to increase the number of low-dose CT screenings among individuals who are considered high-risk for developing lung cancer.

CARIBOU, Maine Cary Medical Center will host a special presentation on “grounding” at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 13.
Grounding, also called earthing, is a therapeutic technique that involves doing activities that “ground” or electrically reconnect people to the earth. This will be a virtual presentation and pre-registration is required.
Those attending the virtual presentation will be eligible to receive a free tree donated by the Central Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District. The trees are of varying types and will be a foot to a foot and a half tall and ready for planting. Instructions on how to plant and care for the trees will also be provided.
