Governor Healey on Monday said schools are “failing” students by not using up-to-date reading instruction, but she declined to say whether she supports legislation to require schools to choose instructional materials from a list of state-approved reading curriculums.
This academic neglect puts a huge burden on parents, forcing them to take on what can amount to full-time jobs as advocates for their children, pouring money and time into fights with school districts to get the instruction they need, and often hiring expensive outside help, including lawyers.
