NCMC to be fully operationalised on Delhi Metro’s Airport Express Line with RuPay 55 Mumbai: National Payments Corporation of India announced that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will accept the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for metro travel on the 23 km long Airport Express Line from New Delhi to Dwarka Sector-21 starting 28th December 2020. With this initiative, more than 1 crore RuPay contactless cardholders can use their cards on this line seamlessly to board on the train and skip long ticketing queues. Passengers travelling on the Airport Line need not buy a separate token or card to board the train as their RuPay card will act as the travel ticket. This facility will be available on the entire Delhi Metro network by 2022.

The feature also provides reloadable wallets within RuPay Card for everyday transit payments as well. According to a statement by NPCI, it has also introduced the feature for retail payments on pilot basis, adding that the features will augment the overall transaction experience for RuPay cardholders and help evolve the card payment ecosystem. As per NCPI, the RuPay card comes with a reloadable wallet feature where customers can store money to ensure quick and effortless transactions without any irregularities even if they have poor connectivity at the POS machines.

NPCI launches offline payments feature for contactless RuPay cards

December 17, 2020 The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched an offline contactless payments feature for RuPay cardholders, it said in a press release on Wednesday. RuPay cardholders can now make offline payments at point-of-sale (PoS) devices using Near-Field-Communication (NFC) enabled cards in areas with limited network connectivity, it said. Over the last few months, there has been a push by the NPCI and the Reserve Bank of India to encourage digital payments in an offline mode, particularly due to network connectivity issues in large parts of the country. In August this year, the RBI issued guidelines to payment system operators allowing them to launch pilot programs for small value offline payments. Further, the RBI recently allowed two companies to conduct pilot tests for offline payments solutions under its regulatory sandbox, while the NPCI has partnered with companies like ToneTag and Gupshup to launch a feature-phone based payments solution that can b

RuPay contactless cards have been enabled with an offline feature for retail payments on a pilot basis to ensure seamless transactions in areas of low connectivity. The cards also have a reloadable wallet facility, whereby customers can store money and use that for day-to-day transit payments. The wallet feature, too, could be used to make payments despite facing connectivity issues at point-of-sale machines. This will boost the adoption of digital payments in the country, especially when the government has been pushing RuPay cards by nudging banks to promote these as the first option. In a statement on Wednesday, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the umbrella body for payments and settlement, said these features would augment the transaction experience for new RuPay contactless cardholders and revolutionise the card payments ecosystem.
