He was 107. It took him 60 years to develop eight volumes of the dictionary, which is the most for any Indian language dictionary. While the first volume of the dictionary was printed in 1970, the eighth and final volume appeared in 1995. The eight volumes of the Kannada dictionary is about 10,000 pages long. Prof G Venkatasubbiah along with other experts developed it on par with the Oxford dictionary.

Express News Service BENGALURU: For children studying in the Government Primary School at Vignana Nagar in KR Puram, reaching the school has almost become a steeple chase. With no proper access road, they are forced to scale a four-foot-high compound wall, erected recently by the owner of an adjacent piece of land.Though regular classes have not yet commenced for students up to Class 5, teachers come to the school every day. Some students, however, do come to meet teachers and clarify doubts, collect books and uniforms. They also visit the school once a month to collect grains and groceries which are given instead of midday meals.

Taking to Twitter, senior epidemiologist and member of the Covid Advisory Committee Dr Giridhara Babu said Coverage of Vaccine, Containment efforts to limit spread, and Continuing genetic sequencing of the virus is most important for the government now. When the pandemic broke out, the mantra for Covid containment was Test, Trace and Treat. But now, experts say it is extremely important to ensure that vaccine coverage happens at a quick pace. The coverage of at least 60% of the population at the current rate of progress will take a minimum of six months, said Dr Manjunath, Director of Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology. “Taking the vaccine is very important, but the government also needs to speed up the process. It will take a minimum of six months and maybe longer to vaccinate 60% of the population. We should not be complacent,” he said
