Our Correspondent Kohima, June 23 (EMN): The Nagaland Assembly Secretariat Staff Association (NASSA) along with the Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Thursday decided to call off its nearly month-long agitation with immediate effect. Consequent to the resignation tendered by Dr. PJ Antony (Rtd. Officer) from the post of Principal Secretary, Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat (NLAS) on June 22, the NSSA and JAC held a sitting on Thursday and decided to cancel the protest. NASSA began its agitation on June 3 objecting to the appointment of Dr. PJ Antony to the post of principal secretary in the NLAS, the appointment order of which was issued by the NLA Speaker on June 2. NASSA submitted a representation dated April 21, 2022, to the assembly Speaker requesting him not to extend his service that expired on May 31, 2022, as the head of the administration of the NLA Secretariat. The agitation was earlier called off temporarily for three working days, starting from June 17, following a request made by the seven-member Parliamentary Committee headed by MLA Dr. Chotisuh Sazo in a joint meeting with the NASSA on June 15. Our Correspondent Kohima, June 16 (EMN): The Nagaland Assembly Secretariat Staff Association (NASSA) and Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Thursday announced to temporarily suspend its ongoing agitation for three working days from June 17. This decision was conveyed by the JAC Secretary Sezoto Theyo and NASSA General Secretary, Talirenla following a joint meeting held on June 16, after a request was made by the seven-member Parliamentary Committee headed by MLA Dr. Chotisuh Sazo in a joint meeting with the staff association on June 15. Besides Sazo as the chairman, the other members of the committee were Metsubo jamir, Tongpang Ozukum, KT Sukhalu, Mhathung Yanthan, Medo Yokha and Khehovi Yeputhomi. “The committee had assured in the meeting that the grievances of NASSA/JAC shall be addressed positively”, they stated. Kohima, June 15 (PTI): The issue of reappointment of a retired government officer to the post of Principal Secretary in the Nagaland Assembly Secretariat was taken up for hearing by the Kohima Bench of the Gauhati High Court on Wednesday. The Nagaland Assembly Secretariat Staff Association (NASSA) had filed the petition against the extension of service of Dr. P J Antony. The Court has fixed the next hearing for June 21, NASSA vice president Rocus Rino said. Antony was appointed as secretary of the NLA Secretariat on deputation from the Lok Sabha secretariat on January 2, 2020. He retired from regular service on May 31, 2020. However, he was re-appointed by the state government with the approval of the Cabinet as Commissioner and Secretary (on a contract basis) by upgrading the cadre post of the Secretary for two years w.e.f., 01.06.2020 to 31.05.2022 to head the administration of the NLA Secretariat. This was resolved during the Joint Action Committee (JAC) meeting held on Friday after its agitation in the form of ‘pen down strike’ and ‘wearing of black badges’ between June 3 and the 10th.
