The suspect has been identified by Homewood Police as 28-year-old Jordan Markice Ricks of Pelham. Warrants have been obtained by police charging him with murder and leaving the scene of an accident.
1 dead in Madison County police chase that ends with patrol car collision

Madison County authorities say a man is dead following a vehicle chase involving deputies around midnight.
Madison County Coroner Tyler Berryhill said Brian Potts, 39, of Huntsville, was pronounced dead at Enterprise Way near University Drive at 12:27 a.m.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Brent Patterson said Potts fled when deputies attempted to take him into custody for outstanding warrants for reckless endangerment and attempting to flee and elude.
Potts was the only occupant of his vehicle. After a few minutes, he lost control of his vehicle while traveling east on University Drive near Enterprise Way, Patterson said. He crossed into the opposing lane of traffic and struck a deputy’s patrol vehicle that was traveling west on University Drive.

A 42-year-old Homewood mother of two young daughters was killed when a man fleeing Vestavia Hills police slammed into the Jeep Wrangler in which she was a passenger.
Robyn Naftel Herring, a nurse practitioner at UAB Hospital, was pronounced dead on Lakeshore Parkway near the Interstate 65 ramp at 6:55 p.m. Monday. The suspect who hit her remains at large.
