Black Fungus Declared Notifiable Disease in Tamil Nadu by Dr Jayashree on  May 24, 2021 at 12:37 AM Nine people including seven diabetic patients are found to have Mucormycosis (Black Fungus) in Tamil Nadu, following this the state is incorporating a 10-member Mucormycosis committee comprising deans, the Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine (DPH) and doctors from various departments, including ENT, diabetology, microbiology and medicine. Tamil Nadu Health Secretary said, Nine people have Mucormycosis in the state. Of the nine, seven patients are diabetic while the remaining two patients do not have diabetics. Some have infections in their eyes and treatment has been started for all them. There is no death reported till now .

Chennai Reports High COVID-19 Test Positivity Rates by Colleen Fleiss on  May 1, 2021 at 3:07 PM Chennai has reported the highest coronavirus test positivity rate at 20% followed by Tirunelveli at 17%, said public health authorities. The capital city Chennai has also the highest test positivity rate with 20 per cent or every 20 persons tested among 100 people turning positive. Tirunelveli recorded 17 per cent while Tuticorin has 16 per cent and Tenkasi reported 14.2 per cent test positivity rate. Tamil Nadu on Thursday reported 17,897 fresh Covid cases with 107 deaths. There were 1,12,556 active cases in the state while 15,452 people were discharged from hospitals. ‘With 40 Covid-19 deaths, Chennai has reported the highest number of deaths since March 2020 when the virus was first detected in the country.’
