Army urged to protect chaplain punished for supporting trans ban | U S

A U.S. Army chaplain leads soldiers in prayer while on overseas deployment. | AMERICAN BIBLE SOCIETY An advocacy group comprised of military chaplains has called on the United States Army to intervene on behalf of a chaplain who was punished for sharing his views on transgender ideology on Facebook. U.S. Army leadership reprimanded Chaplain Major Andrew Calvert for criticizing possible changes to the Department of Defense’s policies on transgender service. The Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty released a statement Monday calling on senior Army leadership to dismiss charges of wrongdoing against Calvert for the social media post. Calvert was expressing views that were consistent with U.S. Defense Department policy at the time, argued the Alliance, and was also expressing his sincerely held religious beliefs on the matter.

Fort Hood: Dead animals result of nature, mowing and suspected foul play

Dead animals that have been noticed in a Fort Hood housing are due to a mix nature, mowing mishaps and “suspected foul play,” a Fort Hood official said this week. A number of people on Facebook pages related to Kouma Village said they have noticed dead animals — or animal parts — showing up in unsightly ways in recent weeks. Kouma Village, on the south side of Interstate 14, is one of several family housing areas on post. “A dead squirrel was placed by our gate last night on Evans Dr.” posted Veronica Cottemond. Others have said they have noticed dead rabbits and birds, although it’s unknown if they died naturally. Some on Facebook suspected the recent sub-freezing weather that lasted for a week in February had something to do with it.

Area cities water systems slowly returning to normal

KILLEEN As of 5 p.m. Monday, Stage 5 water restrictions for the city of Killeen had been lifted, but a boil water notice remains in effect for all properties located in Killeen. “The City had been in Stage 5 restrictions since February 17 because of extremely low water levels across the system,” City Spokeswoman Hilary Shine said in a press release late Monday. “Water levels have stabilized, and all normal indoor and outdoor uses are permitted.” All water should be boiled prior to consumption under the boil water notice which is still in effect. “Food and water was distributed this morning at 10 a.m. and supply exhausted at 11 a.m.,” Shine said in an email. “It was at Killeen Community Center. We’ve exhausted the limited supply of provisions. If more are received, we will announce distribution.”
