The military has said its census takers are attacked often and thus could not compile electors' list. On February 1, it also extended its own rule by six months.
Since the army takeover in Myanmar, the UN has documented 260 attacks on schools and education personnel however the military government has denied responsibility for the attacks.
Every day for the last three months, an average of six or seven families in Myanmar have posted notices in the country's state-owned newspapers cutting ties with sons, daughters, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
