Universal Credit is a state benefit which provides support to those who are on a low income or out of work entirely. It can be awarded to people who are aged between 18 and state pension age (with some exceptions for those who are 16 or 17) who have less than £16,000 in savings.
On this, Citizens Advice have stepped forward and called on the Government not to remove the uplift, with the charity highlighting their web pages on Universal Credit have been viewed once every ten seconds since March.
Additionally, the charity has given more than 300,000 people one-to-one advice on Universal Credit since the pandemic began.
Alistar Cromwell, the Acting Chief Executive of Citizens Advice, commented on this: The £20-a-week increase to Universal Credit has helped families weather this crisis. But with just 10 weeks until this boost ends, the clock is ticking for the government to act.

UNIVERSAL Credit can be claimed by those who are on a low income or who are out of work and hit additional eligibility criteria. In most cases, the payments cannot be claimed by state pensioners but there are some exceptions to this rule.
UNIVERSAL Credit payments have been boosted by a £20 uplift since early 2020 as Rishi Sunak took steps to help those struggling with the pandemic. Today, a non-binding vote was made on a motion to extend the uplift put forward by the Labour party.
