MP Tables a Bill to Legalize Sex Work in Kenya

A new bill seeking to decriminalize sex work in Kenya has been tabled in Parliament. The Penal Code Amendment Bill 2021 is sponsored by Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria and is set for the first reading in Parliament. The bill seeks to delete Section 182 of the Penal Code which gives police the powers to arrest those engaging in commercial sex in public places, beggars, and drunkards on grounds that they are idle and disorderly.  Gikaria, a two-time MP, argues that law enforcement officers have used the powers to harass innocent civilians.

Family of Popular Kenyan Emcee Demands Justice over His Mysterious Death

A family in Embu is demanding justice following the mysterious death of their kin, a popular master of ceremonies.   25-year-old Newton Mugendi, alias MC Newto, was stabbed on the head by unknown people on Monday night and left for dead. His wife Sakinah Wanjiku said they spent the entire day indoors until later in the evening when her husband left to see a friend, who had been persistently calling him.

Questions as Kenyan Woman and Her Iranian Husband Disappear Mysteriously at JKIA

The family of Samuel Njunu is in distress following the mysterious disappearance of their daughter and her Iranian husband. Stella Waithira Njunu (30) and her spouse Mohamed Golabi (34) were last seen at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). The couple was traveling back to Iran on September 24th after visiting Waithira’s ailing dad.  They were dropped off at the airport by Waithira’s sister and a friend at around 1:00 am, with their flight scheduled to depart Nairobi at 4:00 am.

Eric Omondi Shows Off His New Sh141 Million Karen Mansion

Comedian Eric Omondi has flaunted a multi-million-shilling mansion he claims to be his. Omondi posted a video of the seven-bedroom house located in the posh estate of Karen, Nairobi on his Facebook page.  The self-declared president of comedy in Africa claimed the villa is worth Sh141 million, saying he spent Sh72 million for the construction and Sh69 million to buy the piece of land on which the house sits.

First Batch of Kenyan Nurses Prepares to Leave for the UK

Kenya is set to send the first group of nurses to the United Kingdom in October, the government has said. The nurses will be employed in the UK National Health Service (NHS) under a bilateral labor agreement between Kenya and the UK.  The MoU on the Kenya-UK Health Workforce Collaboration, which provides a framework for the exchange of healthcare workers between the two countries, was signed during President Kenyatta’s visit to London in July.
