We realized we could charge, we could energize the course even more by adding other talent that has expertise that could see the curriculum, see the syllabus, in particular Michael Strauss is an expert on our galaxy, its structure, largescale structures of the universe in particularly. And the command module, its Service Module and lunar module together carried three astronauts, neil armstrong, buzz aldren and Michael Collins to the moon. The command module very significantly also brought them back safely. This lunar module is an actual lunar module that never flew in space. Its lunar module two. It was intended to be used in an earth orbital test flight but the test was canceled as unnecessary. So nasa transferred this lunar module to the national air and space museu
This morning i got a call from a reporter who wanted to know, why would the museum at a time when it was focused on opening the building, why would they even helped organize such a conference . The simple answer is that we are crazy, but at the smithsonian and at this busy him, scholarship is the engine and research is the lifeblood of the institution. Without the decades of research and academic scholarship, there would be no museum of African American history and culture. We know that we are tied to so much of the work that many of you do. So much of the work of the museum has been shaped by the work of many participating in this conference. Amazing rate of scholarship, the museum has been able to position itself as an institution that will help all whom visit to find it rich and theced vision of africanamerican community.
