The last of the letters of the Domino Sugar sign are coming down as an iconic piece of the Baltimore skyline gets a facelift.
The $2 million project will see the letters replaced with something more environmentally friendly.
On Thursday morning, just two letters remained on the 70-year-old sign. Some of the neon letters are so badly damaged, they fell apart when they were taken down.
“We’re switching from neon lighting to LED technology, Domino spokesman Peter O Malley said. But we know how much people love the sign so it’s one of our goals to keep it looking as much the same as possible, so we want to make sure we want to maintain that same appearance.”
