in joplin. what makes the difference between whether or not someone survives. number one, access to air. if you re caught in a tornado, some people have access to air and some don t. secondary will be access to water because you can live for several days without water. after that, it would be whether you have a crush injury and whether in injuries you have get infeed. and in joplin, there has been some concern for water. clean water. exactly. they re telling residents now to boil their water before drinking it. is that enough? yeah. the things they re concerned that might have gotten into the water, boiling can take care of it. it s amazing because when you look at the pictures, those are things you don t think about. you think about power, electricity, but not water. and you don t think about infections, things that are less visible. you think about the things we re seeing now.
i want you to get home and get out of here quickly. the winds are picking up. absolutely. wow, amazing. let s bring in a storm chaser. saw five or six tornadoes today, just east of oklahoma city. he joins us now. reed, i know you re in eastern oklahoma. how many tornadoes have you seen in the past few hours? well, it s died down for us. we usually shut down after nightfall because it s too dangerous to intercept the tornadoes. we saw five or six throughout the day. the first of which was a violent wedge and we were able to intercept it in our armored vehicle and record some data inside that tornado. what kind of damage have you seen so far? we haven t seen much of the damage directly. we ve just kind of been in open territory. we did see one tornado that hit a farm and it just got lofted way into the air.
take a look at the television screen right now. thees are the first pictures of damage coming into us of sedalia, missouri, where a tornado had been on the ground earlier. chad myers, what are you seeing here? we knew that the after ffili out of missouri was getting gas and now you will see the damage out to the side. this is significant damage to a mobile home park, and this is what you would call downtown sedalia with 20,000 residents there, and still, as they have just arrived on scene, they are finding more and more damage as we fly. you will see more and we will have the latest pictures, but you can see the damage with the home almost completely destroyed, and here is a woodstick residential area, and we talked about a ef-2, and 120 to 115 to 120, but the roofs are
