(File photo) MANILA- The Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday said it has introduced various interventions to address the challenges on the quality of education nationwide even before the coronavirus pandemic started. In a statement, the DepEd noted that the issue of learning poverty has been a dilemma of the country for years, emphasizing that it is has been proactively dealing with the problem for a long time. The agency's remarks came in response to a new World Bank report saying the Philippines has a 90 percent "learning poverty" which is defined as the rate of children being unable to read by the age of 10. "Before the pandemic, we launched the Bawat Bata Bumabasa (3Bs) initiative nationwide, with our field offices aggressively coming up with contextualized approaches to increase reading proficiency among learners," it said. Framingham schools Multilingual Director Gen Grieci to retire in June after 40 years of work in public education FRAMINGHAM After four decades of working in public education, Genoveffa Grieci, the Framingham Public Schools director of multilingual education, will retire on June 30. Grieci has worked in Framingham for 31 years, dedicating her time to serving the needs of Framingham s linguistically diverse students. She was first a teacher, eventually becoming department chair. For the past 11 years, she s been a Central Office administrator as the assistant director and, later, director of the Office of Multilingual Education. In a statement, Grieci said her decisions have always been made with the following question, first and foremost:  What does it mean for students, families, teachers and school communities?
