Hifazat-e Islam has formed a new five-member convening committee following the dissolution of its central committee in the wake of a spate of arrests of its top leaders over nationwide violence. );

The radical Islamist group announced the development through a series of video messages on Facebook in the early hours of Monday.
Muhibullah Babunagari was appointed as the chief of the convening committee and Nurul Islam Jihadi as secretary general, while Junaid Babunagari is part of the panel and holds the designation as Amir.
Salauddin Nanupuri and Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury were later added to the committee. The members were all part of the previous committee.
Hefazat central committee dissolved, convening committee announced
Hefazat-e-Islam announced a five-member convening committee, hours after dissolving its central committee.
Nurul Islam Jihadi, Secretary General of the dissolved committee, announced the committee in a video message early Monday.
Muhibullah Babunagari was named the chief adviser of the convening committee.
Junaid Babunagari, who was amir of the dissolved committee, was named as the convener in the new committee.
Nurul Islam Jihadi announced himself as the member secretary of the convening committee.
Besides, Salah Uddin Nanupuri and Principal Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury were made members in the convening committee.
He also said that the five-member committee will soon announce the full convening committee of Hefazat-e-Islam.

Awami League leader Jahangir Kabir Nanak has described Hifazat-e Islam’s recent actions in disbanding their central committee and forming a new convening committee as a sham to cover their bases, spurred by Mamunul Haque’s confession to the police. );

The Awami League presidium member said the Islamist group perpetrates violence in the name of religion and should not be given another chance to regain political footing.
“Hifazat has tarnished mosques and madrasas. To preserve the sanctity of mosques and madrasas, they must not be allowed in.”
Nanak made the remarks during an event celebrating Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Bogura’s Balenda on Monday.
