The meeting on Tuesday night came as a crackdown on the Islamist group continued following violence during the celebrations of 50 years of independence.
Nurul Islam Jihadi, member secretary of the organisation’s newly formed convening committee, led a delegation of six leaders.
The others were Mufti Maulana Jasimuddin , Maulana Yahiya, Principal Mizanur Rahman, Maulana Mainuddin and Maulana Ataullah Hafezi.
State Minister for Religious Affairs Faridul Islam Dulal was also present in the meeting that ended some time after midnight, said Sharif Mahmud Apu, a spokesman for the home ministry.
Hefazat central committee dissolved, convening committee announced
Hefazat-e-Islam announced a five-member convening committee, hours after dissolving its central committee.
Nurul Islam Jihadi, Secretary General of the dissolved committee, announced the committee in a video message early Monday.
Muhibullah Babunagari was named the chief adviser of the convening committee.
Junaid Babunagari, who was amir of the dissolved committee, was named as the convener in the new committee.
Nurul Islam Jihadi announced himself as the member secretary of the convening committee.
Besides, Salah Uddin Nanupuri and Principal Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury were made members in the convening committee.
He also said that the five-member committee will soon announce the full convening committee of Hefazat-e-Islam.
