Kwara United continued their fantastic home run in the Nigeria Professional Football League with a 3-0 thrashing of Dakkada FC on matchday 10.
The Harmony Boys now occupy the top spot of the league with 21 points and remains the surprise package of the new season.
The match played at the Ilorin Sports Complex presented another opportunity for coach Abdullahi Biffo’s team to consolidate on their matchday 9 victory over Sunshine Stars in Akure.
The visitors, Dakkada was also pumped up after a 2-1 win over Abia Warriors in their last match in Uyo.
Wasiu Alalade opened scoring for the home side, Michael Ohanu doubled it in the 72nd minute with a sweet volley while Alao Danbani scored in the 80th minute to wrap up a fine win for the Harmony Boys who have secured 6 wins, 3 draws and just a loss in 10 matches.
Rivers United failed to take a chance to return to the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League table after losing 2-1 to Katsina United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on matchday 8.
The Pride of Rivers, looking for their second away of the season, travelled to Katsina with high hopes of consolidating on their last league win over Adamawa United in Port Harcourt and get a result that will restore their lead in the league.
Katsina United had a difficult time in Aba on matchday 7, losing 1-0 to Enyimba and didn’t want back-to-back defeats in the league and that made the encounter with Rivers United a feisty one.
At the restart of the second half, Akwa withdrew Ukeme Williams and Ikechukwu Nwani for Ndifreke Effiong and Ubong Friday in a bid to get the maximum points.
In the 62nd minute, Effiong missed a golden sitter from Mayi’s sublime pass to score to the astonishment of the technical crew. In the 65th minute, Mfon Udoh replaced Akarandut Orok to help unlock the tight Dakkada’s defence.
As the game wore, both sides became conscious of not letting down their guards with tackles flying in.
Despite Akwa’s four shots on target as against Dakkada’s two, no goal was scored by both sides as the game ended 0-0.
