The Rawalpindi Ring Road has become the first project of Pakistan in which the design of a highway was changed to save a tree, engineers working on the project said.
Govt to Invest Rs. 100 Million to Save Historic Tree from Rawalpindi Ring Road Project
Following a movement against cutting down a 100-year-old banyan tree, the government has decided not to cut it down to accommodate the construction of the Rawalpindi Ring Road. Consequently, the government has approved an additional Rs. 100 million to be allocated to the project to change the design of the road and save the tree.
Earlier, the residents of Rawat had pleaded with the government to prevent chopping down the historic tree that has come in the way of the Rawalpindi Ring Road Project.

Two new graveyards to address needs of Pindiites

Rawalpindi:The local administration, Rawalpindi has recently established a graveyard in Dhok Munshi which is operational while another one in Adiala Road is in process of completion and will be operational very soon. “The graveyard in Dhok Munshi graveyard has huge space for next 10-years at least, Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Captain (r) Muhammad Mehmood told ‘The News’ here on Wednesday.
Pindiites are facing difficulties in finding space for a grave. They have to search from place to place to find out space for a grave but in vain. Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Captain (r) Muhammad Mehmood said with these two new graveyards at Dhoke Munshi and Adiala Road, will address to the needs of Pindiites as not only the landlords but their tenants will also get space for a grave here for their deceased ones.
Small temples around Sujan Singh Haveli to be restored

Rawalpindi: Commissioner Rawalpindi Captain (r) Muhammad Mehmood has said that there are seven small temples in an area of one kilometre around Sujan Singh Haveli and it has been decided to restore them. The project will also include a complete restoration of Sujan Singh Haveli for which a project concept-I (PC-I) has been devised.
He said that these seven temples around Sujan Singh Haveli would be identified and restored, and information about their historical status would be displayed at a prominent place. He said this in a briefing regarding Sujan Haveli and Bhabra Food Street projects at the office Rawalpindi Metropolitan Corporation.
